Calling All Collectors: We Need You!

by Scott English

We're proud to announce we've moved to the next planning phase for the Great American Stamp Show: Chicago 2021. The show will be held at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois, from August 12-15, 2021.

Since December, we've been working to evaluate the ever-changing pandemic and restrictions in Illinois, and the State has finally provided a clear path to easing restrictions. Based on the plan, we expect the convention center will be operating, though there may be some restrictions at the time of the show.

Our highest priority in planning the event will be protecting the health and safety of those attending the show. We'll be working with the convention center and others to provide clear and enforced guidelines to follow while at the show. Though many of us will be vaccinated by August, we will be working to protect those still vulnerable to the virus.

While we’re moving ahead, there is a catch. To ensure the show can be financially viable for dealers and the American Philatelic Society, we set participation goals that we need to meet by May 15, 2021. The goals are clear:

1. 75 registered dealers,
2. 25 registered societies, and
3. 500 registered exhibit frames

The good news is that registrations started coming in almost immediately after we announced plans to move into the next phase. Societies and clubs shared information with members and started planning events during the days of the show. While this is good news, we don't just want to meet those goals; we should beat them.

How Can You Help?

We have a firm set of goals and a deadline. Act now. Please register for the show: sign up to be a presenter, exhibitor, request a society meeting at the show, share the information with your philatelic friends, and make plans to socialize with them there. Stamp shows are many things, and we want you to get the most out of this gathering.

If you’re a dealer, we’re here for you. Some of the details are not readily available, pending further guidance from the State of Illinois and the convention center. However, we will be doing everything we can to bring customers and help you succeed. Unfortunately, some of the requirements will require us to spend more for each booth, but we have not increased costs to you. It’s our way of saying thank you for supporting the show.

I'll be writing more as we get closer to the show. There will be many challenges on the road to Chicago 2021, and we'll need your help like never before. Please participate, promote, and plan to attend. The hobby has prospered in so many ways over the past year. It's time for us to come together and celebrate our success.
